During my hands-on experience with be quiet!’s new keyboard lineup at COMPUTEX 2025, I got the chance to test two very distinct yet equally impressive entries into the mechanical keyboard space the Dark Mount and Light Mount. These aren’t just keyboards; they’re carefully crafted tools that blend style, performance, and thoughtful innovation. Whether you’re deep in creative work, managing macros like a pro, or enjoying long gaming sessions, these keyboards are built to elevate the entire experience.

If you don’t know, in the year 2022, be quiet! bought MOUNTAIN, a keyboard manufacturer, to be part of be quiet!.

Dark Mount: Power, Precision, and Presence

Let’s start with the bolder sibling, the Dark Mount. At first glance, it’s clear this keyboard wasn’t built to blend in. The matte black finish, solid chassis, and sharp lines make a strong visual statement. It’s the kind of keyboard that quietly says, “I mean business”, whether you’re deep into an editing timeline or holding a clutch moment in-game.

What makes Dark Mount more than just a pretty face, though, is its modular approach to usability. The detachable Numpad? Fully hot-swappable and usable on either side. The Media Dock? Equipped with dedicated playback keys and a compact display for real-time feedback. These aren’t gimmicks. They’re thoughtful touches designed for people who want control over their workspace.

You also get an ergonomic split Palm Rest and stackable magnetic riser feet, letting you fine-tune wrist angles for those long work or play sessions. I tried it out for a full day’s typing and another full night of gaming, and yes, my wrists were thankful.

The cherry on top? The 8 customizable Display Keys. Each one supports mini-icons (140×140 pixels) for shortcuts, macros, or even app launches. It’s like having a Stream Deck built into your keyboard, and once you start using them, there’s no going back.

Light Mount: Minimalism with a Multimedia Edge

If Dark Mount is all about presence, Light Mount is about polish. It leans into a clean, minimalist aesthetic, but don’t let that fool you, it’s just as capable and feature packed as its darker counterpart.

The highlight here is the aluminum 3D Media Wheel, a beautifully machined control knob for volume and media that feels just as premium as it looks. Paired with 5 dedicated mechanical macro keys, Light Mount is perfect for those who like their shortcuts but prefer a more subdued look.

Lighting-wise, this board stands out without screaming for attention. The arched ARGB diffuser under each key provides an even glow, while an LED bar up top and two on the sides create a soft, atmospheric underglow. It’s subtle, elegant, and never overpowering.

Like Dark Mount, it also includes the modular magnetic Palm Rest and adjustable feet for comfort. Small details that go a long way when you’re in front of a keyboard all day.

Typing Experience: Silent but Satisfying

Both keyboards feature in-house Silent Switches available in Orange (linear) and Black (tactile) variants. I tested both on-site at COMPUTEX, and here’s the quick breakdown:

  • Orange Linear: Smooth and quiet. Perfect for fast typists or gamers who want a soft, uninterrupted press.
  • Black Tactile: Slight bump, great for those who want feedback without the noise.

All switches are pre-lubed, which is a nice touch usually reserved for custom keyboard enthusiasts. They’re also hot-swappable, compatible with 5-pin MX-style switches, ideal if you’re the type who likes to experiment with feel and sound.

Sound dampening is another big win here. Dark Mount uses silicone, while Light Mount opts for foam, both effective in creating that “thocky,” muted acoustics that keyboard lovers chase after. It’s quiet enough for shared workspaces but still delivers that satisfying feedback that makes typing feel good.

Which Mount Should You Choose?

If you like your gear bold, modular, and full of customizable tech, Dark Mount is the way to go. It’s a powerhouse with flexibility baked that is great for multitaskers, creators, and gamers who want it all in one sleek package.

Prefer something cleaner, quieter, but still feature-rich? Light Mount is for you. It’s more refined in appearance but still delivers top-tier functionality with that gorgeous media wheel and tasteful lighting.

Having tested both during COMPUTEX 2025, I can confidently say be quiet! has stepped into the keyboard scene with intention. These aren’t rushed attempts to ride the mechanical keyboard wave. They’re carefully engineered tools designed with real user needs in mind.
