XPG is directly addressing the ongoing 12V-2×6 connector issues with its new Cybercore III Platinum power supplies, shown at Computex 2026.

The lineup comes in 1000W and 1200W variants and introduces what XPG calls Xtreme Power Guard. Instead of relying purely on standard protections, this setup adds real-time monitoring and user-facing alerts at the cable level.

The most visible change is the Power Guard connector. It has a built-in LED that stays green under normal operation and turns red when abnormal current is detected. It is a simple addition, but it gives immediate feedback, something missing from most current PSU designs.

Beyond that, the Cybercore III includes a USB-C Prime Port that connects to XPG Prime software. From there, you can monitor per-pin current, voltage, and temperature on the 12V-2×6 cable. This matters since uneven load across pins is one of the known risks behind connector failures.

There is also a built-in 30-second warning system using their software. If an overcurrent condition is detected, the system alerts the user, gives a short window to respond, and then shuts down automatically if the issue is not resolved.

From the demo on the show floor, the protections behaved as expected under simulated overload conditions.

This does not change PSU performance in the traditional sense, but it shifts focus to the weakest point in current high-power GPU setups, the connector. Instead of treating failures as edge cases, XPG is putting monitoring and safeguards directly where the problem happens.

A few brands are now pushing similar ideas, which is good, but also shows this 12V-2×6 issue has been left unaddressed for far too long.
