If someone asked me what the last thing I bought was, I’d probably disappoint them with my answer. It wasn’t a new graphics card. It wasn’t a fancy mechanical keyboard. It wasn’t even a new camera lens.

It was an AGI Supreme TF138 256GB MicroSD Card. Not exactly the kind of purchase that gets people excited.

Though this tiny storage card ended up reminding me that sometimes the smallest or simplest purchases can give you interesting stories.

I Bought It Because I Needed One

Like most of my purchases, this one had a purpose. I needed a new MicroSD card because I simply didn’t have a spare one on hand.

During the time I was planning to purchase one, the very main reason is to use it on a gear that I am currently reviewing and not because I want to use it on my other devices. I just need a good MicroSD card to be able to test and complete a review.

Before checking out, I actually noticed something else. MicroSD card prices aren’t what they used to be.

I remember when a 256GB card was noticeably cheaper, so seeing today’s prices made me pause for a second. I know prices change due to the recent “Ramaggedon“. I couldn’t help but notice that they’re becoming more expensive again.

I had little options so that’s why I stop comparing different brands and just settle with the AGI Supreme TF138. At that point, I had no idea that this little MicroSD card would end up serving a completely different purpose.

The Purchase I Thought I’d Regret

After installing the card and spending some time with the pocket camera, I quickly realized something. The problem wasn’t the MicroSD card. It was the camera.

The image quality is not what I expected, and it has too much filter that you can’t even turn off. Despite of trying to change the settings and other lighting conditions, it won’t work what I like to.

As a tech reviewer or content creator, you will face such problems that the devices or components you review will not work as intended.

Since I bought the MicroSD card specifically for that review, I honestly thought I had made a purchase that would end up sitting inside a drawer. You know that feeling when you buy an accessory for something, only to realize the main product wasn’t worth keeping?

That’s exactly how I felt. Then I looked at my Sony Alpha 6400. A few days later, while organizing my camera gear, I looked over at my Sony Alpha 6400.

That’s when it hit me.

Why not use the new MicroSD card there instead? I’ve been using my Alpha 6400 for product reviews, event coverage, and YouTube videos for years. While it already had storage, having another 256GB available would make my workflow much easier.

So, I inserted the AGI Supreme TF138 into my Sony. And from that moment on, it simply made sense.

Sometimes the Best Purchase Isn’t the Original Plan

Once I started using the card with my Sony Alpha 6400, I realized that this was probably where it belonged all along. The extra 256GB gave me much more room whenever I was recording videos, taking RAW photos, or covering events.

As someone who creates tech content, storage fills up incredibly fast. A single product review involves multiple takes, plenty of B-roll footage, sample photos, and behind-the-scenes clips.

It’s one of those upgrades you don’t really notice until you no longer have to think about it.

So… Was It Worth It?

Looking back, absolutely. Not because it made the pocket camera any better. It didn’t. What changed was where I decided to use it.

The AGI Supreme TF138 wasn’t the problem. The pocket camera simply wasn’t the right device for the project.

Once I moved the MicroSD card over to my Sony Alpha 6400, it became something I now rely on almost every time I head out to shoot.

Sometimes we think we’ve bought the wrong product when, in reality, we’ve just paired it with the wrong device.
